Paula Deen is trying to distance herself from the “brownface” tweet she posted Tuesday morning and took down within 45 minutes. She is blaming her social media manager for the insensitive tweet of a photo of her son, Bobby in “brownface.”
Her unnamed spokesman released a statement to BuzzFeedNews Tuesday afternoon. Here it is:
I have a problem with this statement. First of all who is the “Paula Deen spokesman?” Why didn’t he or she sign it?
Secondly, is Deen claiming she never approves any social media posts? She never looks at them before they go out? That’s like cooking a dish and not making sure all the ingredients are just right.
It’s very easy to blame an insensitive tweet on someone else. We don’t even know if that social media manager ever existed.
Here’s what I do know. Deen has yet to go on Twitter and apologize for the “brownface” tweet or acknowledge she took it down this morning. But she was quick to tweet something more important to her and that is the sale of her new book. Why not? She knows she has the public’s attention.
Bad move Paula Deen! You need to take responsibility not find a scapegoat to take the blame. You need to get off social media, take some classes on what not to post, and then maybe try another comeback next year.
